Hello and welcome to the blog of the Cranbrook Academy of Art Fiber Department.
In the coming months the students and Artist in Residence will share their insights, inviting you inside our seminar discussions, critiques, and other departmental activities.
Our first post coincides with the beginning of the second semester of the 2007 / 2008 academic year. This semester all of the students will have reviews of their work with Artists in Residence from some of the other departments at the Academy, as well as their usual group and individual critiques in the Fiber Department. As a group we will be discussing "Thinking Through Craft" by Glenn Adamson. The first year students will be presenting research into current critical issues that are relevant to their studio work. The second year students will be developing their thesis document and the work for their thesis exhibition.
Liz Cohen and Jane Lackey will be visiting the department later in the semester. Liz will speak about her work and have individual critiques with each of the students. Jane will be our final guest of the year and she will be here to critique the work in the thesis show and the final projects by the first year students.
We look forward to sharing our work with you.
